The goal is to increase movement, decrease sedentary lifestyle and improve healthy physical condition.
Within the framework of World Physical Activity Day, which is celebrated every April 6, the Department for the Promotion of Healthy Lifestyles of the Ministry of Health of the province has proposed that April be the month to deepen the promotion physical activity and health. The objective is to make the population aware of the importance of staying active to improve their health and therefore their quality of life. This date has been celebrated worldwide since 2002, at the initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO), and this year the actions will be centered on the motto “Move to live”.
Based on the principle that regular physical activity has beneficial effects on the health of people of all ages and is a key factor in the prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), as well as in improving the quality of life, the Department of Healthy Lifestyles Promotion of the Primary Health Care Directorate has set itself three objectives: to increase the level of physical activity, reduce physical inactivity and improve healthy physical condition.
To achieve these goals, we have worked on various actions to promote healthy environments where positive change occurs. For this reason, the Ministry of Health of the Province of Neuquén carries out multidisciplinary and comprehensive work in the contexts and places where people carry out their daily lives, from a rights perspective. The right to physical education and sports are essential factors for the full development of the faculties and potential of people at all stages of life.
In this regard, the Minister of Health, Andrea Peve, underlined: “Today we think about health and we work on health. For this reason, the relaunch of Punto Saludable, with the support of our Governor Omar Gutiérrez, means resuming the axis of health promotion as our north. After the pandemic, the resumption of these actions is very important for the health of the community, raising awareness of the importance of staying active to improve health and quality of life.
Physical activity is defined as any movement performed by skeletal muscles that involves energy expenditure. Walking, biking, playing sports, dancing, gardening and even cleaning and walking a pet are some of the most common physical activities we engage in. To improve health and well-being, the WHO recommends doing 30 to 60 minutes a day.
Thus, the Directorate for the Promotion of Healthy Lifestyles will work in April with the various health care providers in the province so that they share the message that the practice of physical activity is one of the essential pillars for having a good lifestyle. and various actions are carried out on the territory such as awareness days; educational workshops; physical activity and health fairs; group lessons in physical activity, dancing, games, walks; and information and promotion stands run by interdisciplinary teams.
It should be remembered that the territory of Neuquén is vast, with different realities in terms of health, education, habits and lifestyles, which is why the actions will be diverse and adapted to each context.
Among the ongoing efforts, the coordinated work with the Directorate for the Elderly in 16 long-stay residences stands out, where lectures are given for the work teams and courses for the residents; in addition to the presence of the teacher in the Health Points, a territorial strategy to promote active lifestyles.
In addition, it is important to note that physical activity meetings are held twice a week in the health centers and in the mental health inpatient service of the Heller and Castro Rendón hospitals. Active breaks are also organized for health personnel in health centers, hospitals, the DUAM space and the Ministerial Administrative Center (CAM). On the other hand, football workshops are being organized for mental health outpatients at Heller Hospital, with the proposal to extend them to Bouquet Roldán and Castro Rendón hospitals.
Finally, from the Ministry for the Promotion of Healthy Lifestyles, they pointed out that an intersectoral physical activity table is being formed to work on public and private policies at the provincial level, in order to mitigate the progression of obesity. First, progress is being made in forming a Council for the Regulation of Provincial Law No. 3,167 on Combating Sedentariness, which adheres to National Law No. 27,197.
