The reality is that there is no one way to do things. Contrary to what the gurus love to tell us about how you “saved your business”, we have a choice of what we can do based on our natural skills and talents, our target audience and our stage of life. ‘business. In fact, having only one way of doing things is a major risk in a rapidly changing world. What if the goal posts changed?

You don’t need to do anything complicated to build a successful and profitable coaching business. You just need to focus on a few appropriate key elements and move on.

No expensive PR, no complicated funnels, no paid advertising, no 24/7 rush. Simplicity is the key.

Here are four steps to working smarter, not harder.

Get to know yourself

You don’t need to follow what others are doing. Do you really want to be on social media all the time? On all platforms? If the answer is no, just stop doing it. The reality is that some people love social media. Others don’t. And if you don’t, forcing yourself to be there all the time won’t be good for your motivation.

So start by knowing what you’re naturally good at and apply your superpowers to generate leads in a way that resonates with you. I’m not saying it will be super comfortable all the time. You’ll need to do proactive outreach (yes, you need to do this early in your business, when people aren’t knocking on your door). It can bring on the fear of rejection (in fact, it probably will). But it will be ten times more effective than “posting and praying” on social media.

Even within proactive outreach, there are different methods of outreach and different ways to approach it. Do what works best for you. Get to know yourself.

Do you want to work with companies? Want to work with executives?

Decide who you want to work with and go where they hang out. You can change slots later, but you have to start somewhere!

Wherever you want to go, coaching is becoming a bigger part of all of our lives. Know your value and show it to the right people.

If your target market is people who aren’t on Facebook looking for opportunities, you don’t need to be there. You also don’t need to browse Facebook groups.

You also don’t have to be online all the time or speaking at conferences where people just don’t understand you. Be strategic, whatever you choose. Not only does this help reduce your workload, but it’s also much more likely to be efficient.

Know your good marketing strategies (and the result you expect from them)

Know what to expect from the marketing strategies you have selected. Some activities are much more conducive to credibility and long-term visibility than generating cash quickly; others are much more likely to inject cash into your business quickly. At the start of your business, you can do both, but the latter is the priority.

You also shouldn’t spend a fortune trying out expensive Facebook ads or PR. Don’t listen to anyone who tries to tell you that you have to.

The problem is when people get confused about the difference between cash-generating activities and visibility, and then feel disappointed with the results. If you post on social media, you don’t know who is viewing your posts. Over time, you can grow the audience you want, but you probably can’t expect instant results.

Therefore, choose no more than two or three strategies and apply them consistently over a period of time, changing them as you go. Consistency is the key. Commit to showing up, then do it. But know what you expect from the KPI first.

Your number one priority should always be reaching the people you want to work with. Therefore, find a way to put yourself in front of them.

Stop doing the things that get you nowhere

In terms of productivity, what we should stop doing is just as important as what we do.

Doing more and more qualifications, always showing up everywhere, working for free or at low cost, changing your website twice a day and hanging out with other people who aren’t getting results either probably won’t help you.

They are often effective procrastination tools because they actually save us from having to go out and try to build a viable business. If we do that, we might fail. We could be rejected. And let’s face it, it’s scary.
